Why Opiates Like Oxy Can Be More Dangerous Than Heroin

There is an overwhelming epidemic in today’s society and that is the use of oxycontin amongst our children and young people. It can be argued that such a risky drug has never been so conventional and popular amongst teens. Addiction to oxycontin is creating exceedingly bad deeds, physical reliance and even death. When your son or daughter is addicted to oxycontin, roxycontin or any substance that can be recognized as an opiate, you are in a desperate state of affairs and a teen intervention should be something to think about.

Typically you won’t hear your teenager say oxy or oxycontin. Teenagers use secret code words to talk about getting high and you will hear them refer to oxycontin in this fashion. On occasion they are referred to only as pills, but you also could hear your teenager refer to them as “blues” or as that “deaf”. If you hear your son or daughter saying to their friend “did you get your prescription” or “want to get some medicine” you now recognize what they are talking about. If they are addicted to heroin or oxycontin you have to do something right now.

Oxycontin was intended originally to aid very sick people or people suffering from terrible injuries. When ingested traditionally its effects are gradually released into the body helping this unfortunate person deal with their unmanageable pain. When young people abuse roxycontin however, they rarely swallow it. The most common method of using the narcotic is by snorting it. The damage this does to the nasal cavity is much worse than cocaine. Others smoke it and this can be even more dangerous. The chemicals in the pill produce a very harmful smoke to be inhaled in the lungs. This is alot like crack because the high is incredibly intense and the user comes down quickly. Oxycontin is also injected with a needle and this is equally troublesome. Sharing needles can result in disease as well.

Oxycontin addiction makes the user physically addicted to the drug. This means if the addict does not get the drug into their system they will become violently ill and suffer until their body’s need for the drug is met. This includes vomiting, hot and cold flashes, and unbearable body aches. It is pure misery and it will last for up to a week. This is the additional encumbrance addicts of this narcotic carry on their shoulders. They too have the extreme psychological addiction that other drug addicts have, but opiate addicts become physically dependent also.

This situation is very detrimental. If your son or daughter is addicted to opiates they need help immediately. Do not assume punishment or taking away their rights will correct this problem. They are addicted to a powerful narcotic and measures like this will always make them want to use more. You need a teen rehab for your child, where they can get the help and guidance they need. They will be able to detox from the drugs under their specialized care, and after several days of painful withdrawls they will be free from their physical addiction and can now work on the harder part of becoming sober.

If your son or daughter is bringing teen drug abuse into the home, you need a solution right away. When this happens you need to find them a good teen rehab so that they can work toward becoming sober and living a good life again.
