It is difficult to forget our school uniform. For several years, we are forced to wear the school uniforms. I am not against this practice at all as it helps to promote unique identity among the children.
Students are often willing to affiliate themselves to a social group. Be it football clubs or local teams, they are always looking forward to be associated with someone. Gangs exist in schools where children develop similar dressing styles.
Students often have different cultural backgrounds. A uniform helps remove all the socio-economic and cultural barriers among the children. It is important to make them all feel a part of the same society.
Gradually, the students start expressing pride for belonging to their school. They feel good to be a part of that social group. Uniforms help make them feel the same. Without it, the children can not feel proud of their school.
Students do not get any benefit from wearing their own clothes. Discipline is compromised in various ways. Contrary to the claims, clothes are not the best way to identify oneself among the others.
If there were no uniforms, there would be kids more interested in clothes than studies. The authorities do not want children to concentrate on their appearance more than on studies. Their attention will be diverted elsewhere and the concentration on studies will be reduced.
A proper uniform also prevents problems of concentration among students. They do not have to focus on expensive clothes worn by richer classmates. There are lesser cases of violence in the class. Also there are lower cases of teasing and commenting on clothes.
Also there are other conservative social groups which are against the withdrawal of uniforms in schools. They stress that children should learn to become disciplined and they can not learn it by affiliating themselves to various gangs at educational institutions.
