What You Can Expect On Your First Chiropractic Visit

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Sometimes people express a bit of skepticism when it comes to the topic of chiropractic care and if it really works. Other times people are even unsure of if they should take a potential injury to a chiropractor for examination. If you have never been to a chiropractor before, the following information is a short explanation of what you can expect on a general first visit.

If you have been experiencing back pain or you think you may have pulled a muscle, you should consider getting some chiropractic care. This is the best way to find out what is causing your pain and develop a way to treat it. Exploring chiropractic options can help you reduce your need or use for pain medication.

Your first appointment with the chiropractor might be very general. You will likely be asked what specific problems you have been encountering and the intensity of your pain. Your chiropractor will then probably give you an examination. You might also need to have a few tests done while you are at the office. These are usually nothing uncomfortable or even major, but just simple tests like x-rays to see what is going on in the body. Your chiropractor might also perform some tests to see what your current range of motion is on your first visit.

Chiropractic Care as a Form of Preventative Medicine

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Professional chiropractors are well known for their ability to effectively treat back pain. However, many people may not realize that chiropractic care’s utility goes far beyond easing back problems. Preventative care is also provided by many licensed Doctors of Chiropractic (or DCs). Their skilled treatment and advice can help to promote overall wellness as well as prevent pain.

Chiropractors are skilled at relieving pain without the use of drugs by treating the problem rather than just the symptom. Having received intense training in various methods thought to treat both the structural and neurological aspects of the body, DCs perform spinal adjustments that are effective as well as safe and comfortable. Those who suffer from back, neck or hip pain or even tension headaches or fibromyalgia have benefitted from the natural treatment and preventative care that chiropractic offers.

Many chiropractors place special emphasis on diagnosing joint dysfunctions before they turn into major problems. This can keep patients from experiencing more severe injury and pain later. Misaligned spines can cause everything from considerable pain to fatigue, and this is a problem most everyone will experience at some point. Often, pain is not experienced till some time after the initial misalignment took place. For this reason, DCs frequently encourage their patients to have regular appointments to detect and treat spinal problems in order to prevent development of more serious conditions.

Back Pain and Hypercortisolism

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Hypercortisolism is a long medical term that defines Cushing’s syndrome. Cushing’s syndrome is a hyperactive disorder that affects the adrenal cortex and results in excessive secretion of cortisol, which is passed from Glucocorticoids. Cushing’s syndrome can increase sex hormones and mineralocorticoids.

The pituitary glands are stimulated by hypothalamic. The pituitary glands are also affected by carcinoma and/or adenoma. As well, the adrenal glands are affected by hyperplasia when Cushing’s syndrome is present. When Cushing’s syndrome is present, exogenous secretes into the ACTH via the neoplasm, which is malignant. It continues onto the gallbladder and lungs. You will need to read the anatomy of the skeleton system to see how it affects the spinal column, which in turn causes back pain.

The disorder prolongs or submits excessive administration of ACTH and/or Glucocorticoids into the system, which transmits to the cortex. Since ACTH is secreted excessively into the system, it causes joint pain, edema, fragile skin, weight gain, hypertension, ecchymosis, fatigue, weakness, hirsutism, mood swings, and so on. The symptoms carry onto create acne, abdomen striae, slow healing, moon face, muscle waste, recurrent infections, buffalo humps, gynecomastia, truncal obesity, and so on. We see that obesity, joint pain, weight gain, edema, and other elements of the disorder causes back pain as well.
