Real Shaolin Kung Fu, As It Happened in the Movies!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The era of the ultimate and real gung fu was about 1975 to 1985, give or take a few years. Of course, the time period could probably include the time period of 1985 to 1995, because that is when those movies hit the late night TV circuit. And, of course, chop sockies forever, because we can now get them on Amazon, though we should make sure it is a clean copy and that we have a good DVD player.

One could make argument that Bruce Lee provided the first kung fu flick, and they wouldn’t be wrong, for his movies started the flood of kung fu flicks in America. The first real chop sockie, however, would have to be Five Fingers of Death, with the amazing and inspiring Lo Lieh. Lo Lieh, who thrust his broken fingers into cauldrons of red hot rocks until he could have his revenge.

The main chop sockie movie maker, though there were hundreds of movie makers during those years, would be the Shaw Brothers. They churned out thousands of these flicks, and they convinced the world that if you had an idea and believed in yourself, you could learn real Shaolin gung fu. The main man of Shaw Brothers productions was a young star name of Gordon Liu.

Would You Like Toned Inner Legs?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

There is a multitude of muscles within your body. And trying to determine which exercises are best for specific muscles can be a daunting task.

Perhaps you would like to tone the inside part of your legs, but don’t know how to do it in the most efficient manner.

Here are some excellent exercises that will help you reach your goals:

1. Standard back squats: Squats are regarded as the king of all exercises for one simple reason, they target a very large amount of muscle mass. This translates into more efficient workouts and more fat loss. And if you do traditional back squats with a wider stance, you can focus the majority of stress on your inner legs.

2. Wide stance front squat: Consider this exercise an advanced movement. Front squats are not easy, but they are tremendously effective. Make sure, however, that you have developed a strong core before attempting to do front squats.

3. Barbell hack squat: Again, try to use a wider stance here for the best inner leg toning. With this exercise, you grip a barbell behind your back and squat down with it. It may be a challenge to get depth, but keep on trying and your technique will improve.

How to Be a Master of Speed through Your Study of Karate!

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I don’t care how much muscle and weight the other guy has, if you are a master of speed, then you are going to win. If he throws a big, fat, heavy haymaker, you are fast enough to block or just step out of the way. If you throw a punch, it is faster than his big and weighty blocks.

Do you understand how important speed is? Yet, the sad fact is that nobody ever teaches speed. Nobody ever teaches you the specialized techniques or drills that result in your becoming able to move your body faster and faster.

In my case, it took me nearly seven years of dedicated discipline and practice in a couple of different disciplines to become quick in the martial arts. That’s almost seven years of kata and randori and freestyle and bruises and work and exhaustion and lot of dues. When I finally became quick, I knew there had to be a better way of getting quick.

I first became cognizant of the speed available through martial arts through the first move of the form Botsai. That is the move where you do a three blocks quick, and the body protests because you are trying to make it do large movements to handle simple movements. And that concept, doing much to handle little is one of the keys to becoming faster.

The Fastest Method to Enlightenment

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

The four paths of enlightenment are the way of the fakir, the way of the monk, the way of the yogi, and the way of the warrior. In this article we shall discuss what is special about the way of the warrior. After all, enlightenment is a good thing, and it would be a good thing to speed up any individuals progress on the path to enlightenment.

It is said, of the four methods used to reach enlightenment, that the way of the martial artist is the fastest. This is an interesting viewpoint of enlightenment, for one would think that a path concerned with combat would be the slowest. After all, learning how to maim and destroy one’s fellow man would seem antithetical to the path necessary to enlightenment.

First, the warrior deals with worldly matters. He does not turn his attention inward to seek enlightenment, but does his searching in an open manner, seeking out conflict and learning to deal with it. This means, ultimately, giving up the desire for conflict, none of the other enlightenment disciplines seek out conflict in this manner.
